- thoughtful, caring legal advice during life's most stressful times.
So you want to take the matter up on appeal. Writing and filing a brief does not seem so tricky. You know what the legal issues are.
But do you understand the process? Do you need a docketing statement with the notice of appeal? (Usually, yes.) Did you order the transcript? Do you know how to research and find the latest law in this matter? Do you know the difference between cases decided by your court of appeals and other courts of appeals? Do you know how to set up your brief with the proper pagination, citation form and exhibits? Do you know how to cite to the transcript? Do you know if all procedural requirements, such as filing objections, have been met? If not, is there a way around that?
The answer to these questions is the work of an appellate attorney. Yes, appeals can be expensive, but usually only get one shot at the appeal.
This is how I can help. I am familiar with the Court of Appeals requirements and I have a lot of experience with brief writing. Because each Court has its own requirements, I know the importance of checking and understanding the Local Rules.
If you have an important matter that is significant enough to appeal, you should at least consult with an attorney before you decide to take this matter up on your own. And I am willing to meet with you initially for a half hour without charging you.
